We Chat to Scott about The Startup Experience

We had a quick chat to Scott a current Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical Engineering)/Bachelor of Information Technology (Software Development) at Deakin University and current SPARK Ambassador about his experience attending The Startup Experience in 2015.

What are you passionate about?

I’m really passionate about design problem solving, so looking at how can things be designed and build differently to make our lives better. I also love just trying to figure out how everything works. So from small non-nerdy things like pens, to really nerdy things like quantum processing gates in quantum computers.

Why did you apply to attend The Startup Experience

For a long time I’d been an observer of the startup world, especially everything going on in Silicon Valley and I’d always thought about launching my own startup. Being a technical person though, I really wanted to learn more about the business side of things. When Deakin promoted someone coming from Silicon Valley to help teach us the ins and outs of running a startup business, I thought this was the perfect opportunity to jump in.

What was the main thing you took away from the experience?

I took a few things away from it, the main thing was the methodology for testing ideas, so you don’t end up building the wrong thing (probably the biggest cause of startup failures!) The next biggest thing was networking. I had no idea there was so many other people at Deakin interested in entrepreneurship so it was pretty cool to get to know some of these people.
