Global Entrepreneurship Week, 18 - 24 November 2019

Global Entrepreneurship Week invites students, entrepreneurs, investors, social-changemakers, and key players from our local startup ecosystem to embrace diversity and collaborative learning to create a thriving future underpinned by entrepreneurial thinking and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. This theme recognises the importance of equipping your people with entrepreneurial capabilities to thrive in the changing landscape of work, and to explore innovations and multi-disciplinary relationships that help build a thriving and more sustainable world.

We will be running a Startup Hackathon, fireside chat, pitch fest, and more. We’ll also have a number of independently run events by our incredible partners including YBF Ventures, The 11th Space, Melbourne SOUP, and more.

Attendees, participants, and contributors will leave feeling inspired, optimistic, and ready to make a difference.

Startup Hackathon,
22-24 November 2019

Applications for the 2019 SPARK Deakin Startup Hackathon are open.

If you are passionate about solving problems but aren’t sure where to start, SPARK Deakin’s Startup Hackathon is for you. We’ll help you find your feet in the world of entrepreneurship, equipping you with the skills for start-up methodology to design thinking and pitching ideas.

The Startup Hackathon will take place on 22 - 24 November. Applications close on 8 November 2019 (5pm).

Pitch Fest

Want to nail your elevator pitch? Or maybe you’re keen to level-up your communication skills for your next job or internship interview at a cool startup?

Pitch Fest is an opportunity for you to workshop the speaking-skills that will help you nail your next pitch, interview, presentation… You name it! For those who are feeling bold and would like to step up to the challenge, there will also be an chance to jump up on stage to present your pitch.

Lunch and prizes will be provided.

Mindfulness Meditation - Focus on Founder Wellbeing

18 and 21 November at Deakin Downtown (12.00 - 12.30pm)

Being in the startup hustle, we know how new challenges can pop up at any time (and they can happen frequently too!) That's why it's so important for us to be looking after the best asset of our community of entrepreneurs - our wellbeing.

We’re hosting two free mindfulness meditation sessions with our Yogi in Residence, Madeleine Bong, during Global Entrepreneurship Week to bring a focus on founder wellbeing. RSVP is essential.

Exploring Global Startup Cities with The Hacker Exchange

There are many Australian businesses growing and expanding globally. Some startups are even targeting global market from the very beginning. However, for most Australian startups & businesses, the US and Europe seems to be the first markets in mind, with Asia being low on the list.

Many people perceive Asia as a complex market to expand. It may be caused of many factors, such as culture, language, government or policy. Startup founders think that there are many boundaries and challenges to enter Asia. However, it is undeniable that Asia is a very lucrative market with lots of potential.

Then, how can Australian businesses do well in Asia?

This workshop will shine some light on the many possibilities and opportunities in Asia for Australian businesses, as well as working through some of the perceived boundaries and challenges.

Lift Off Awards

Lift Off is a three-tiered program designed by YBF Ventures as part of the YBF Fintech Hub. It includes a women's mentoring program, a scholarship program and the Lift Off Awards, which highlight gender and cultural diversity in fintech.

The second annual Lift Off Awards will take place 21 November in the Ballroom at YBF Melbourne, 7:00pm – 9:30pm. This event is by invitation only. Interested? Learn more here.
