A two-day selective and intensive workshop focused on entrepreneurship run by a serial entrepreneur from Silicon Valley, exclusively for the top 50 participants. Participants will be immersed into the fast pace world of startups, problem solving, ideation, customer insights, accumulating into a mini pitch. 


Application Process and Eligibility - You must be a Deakin student, staff or alumni to be eligible to apply. You can be a member or alumni of any faculty. Although we are always impressed by the number of applicants who have already started their business journey, we are equally impressed by those who are curious and keen to contribute their skills as part of a team.


Selection based on application – A competitive application process will determine which 50 applicants will be shortlisted. No need to have a startup already. It is important that you are passionate about solving real-world problems. With increasing number of applications every year, we are looking for a mix of the most pro-active, passionate, driven and innovative change-makers who are willing to learn. SPARK will choose a mix of participants based on individual application but also based on the group dynamics – IT, Business, Health, Engineering, Design background. 


What to Expect

8th September 2017 - Compulsory Meet-and-Greet on Friday
6.00 - 7.30 PM

Participants are invited to meet the facilitator and have an opportunity to get to know your fellow applicants and network.


9th - 10th September 2017 Workshop
8.30am - 6.30 PM
The following two days focus on the five practical steps of ‘Define, Create, Validate, Build, Pitch’ to launch a successful startup.

Throughout the workshop we will challenge you to work as a startup team to solve complex challenges related to the world of entrepreneurship. You will be provided with the practical tools and techniques through a combination of short lectures and hands-on exercises.

Mentors will be assigned to teams to provide guidance and challenge the participants on their ideas. The two day format of the workshop will be focused around the 5 practical steps for launching. Participants are expected to provide their own laptop or mobile device and note-taking items. Catering and beverages will be provided by SPARK.

NOTE: SPARK Startup Weekend Registration Fee is $33. The food costs are covered by SPARK, however, travel and accommodation are not covered.
